Math PEs (performance expectations)

Please check your child’s binder to see exactly what your child is to know about geometry.  This tells what we have been working on for the past month.  It has probably been awhile since you have had to do any school geometry, so have your child explain what each means.  Also ask what your child what a reflex angle is.  We will be working this week on finding the area of a parallelogram and a triangle using a formula the next two weeks.

Happy New Year

Current Events:

What do you call this year…”twenty ten”  or “two thousand ten”?  We had quite a discussion on this subject this morning.   Think about other years, such as 1906 or 1776 or 1492 or 1800.  Just kind of interesting how numbers are read differently, depending on their usage.

Which twin will have bragging right…the twin who was born on Dec. 31, 2009 at 11:59 PM or the one who was born Jan. 1, 2010 at 12:01 AM.  Can you imagine having twins born on not only different days, but different years and decades.

The tallest building was open this past week.  Can you find out how tall it is (in both feet and miles) and how many stories tall it is?  Also, how long it takes to get up by way of an elevator and how fast it travels?
